What’s it Like Staying at the Holiday Inn Express Porto City Center

We choose every hotel for our experiences the same way: we go, we stay, and we check whether it’s a good fit for our travelers. Just like one size doesn’t fit anyone, we carefully match accommodations to each group’s needs, with safety and cleanliness always the top priority.

The Holiday Inn Express Porto City stands out for three things: the address, the breakfast, and comfortable, spacious rooms with all the amenities travelers need for a stay in Porto’s heart.

The Central Porto Location

The hotel sits right on Rua de Santa Catarina, Porto’s main pedestrian shopping street in the heart of Baixa. Bolhão Market, Clerigos Tower, and São Bento Station are all a short walk, and the Douro waterfront is about 20 minutes on foot. For a group moving between rehearsals, performances, and free time, that central location makes a big difference.

The Stunning Chapel Next Door

One corner over on Rua Guedes de Azevedo sits the Capela de Fradelos, a small neoclassical chapel dating to 1893 with a tiled facade by Jorge Colaço, the same artist behind the famed azulejo panels at São Bento Station. It’s an easy, five-minute detour, and a quiet reminder that Porto’s history shows up in the smallest corners, not just its landmarks.

The Rooms at the HIEX Porto

This is a 105-room property, with two elevators, mainly twin and double rooms, but also a few triples. Rooms are a good size for a city-center location, with 16-21 square meters, and come with the essentials: air conditioning, a work desk with USB ports, a kettle, and blackout drapes. The bathrooms are compact, but the walk-in shower has strong water pressure, and the sink is a good size. The blow-dryer is in the main room, so if you’re sharing a room, one person can get ready there while the other’s inside the bathroom. This hotel focuses on the basics done well, and the ironing boards in each room (with irons) are a nice surprise. Beds are comfy, and the twins are actual twin beds

A Tasty Breakfast with Local Pastries

Breakfast offers more than the basics: fresh pasteis de nata, warm bread, and genuinely good hot chocolate alongside the usual eggs and continental spread. Here, travelers get a filling, unhurried start before a day of rehearsals and sightseeing if you’re an early riser.

Balcony Rooms for the Chaperones

Some rooms come with a balcony overlooking the historic rooftops and the Clerigos skyline. We make a point of requesting them for our chaperones. Fresh air and a view go a long way.
