American Cemetery Normandy
If opting for the Landing Beach Excursions, FMHS students and guests can sing at the Normandy American Cemetery today to honor those who lost their lives in WWII. Each year, only 15 to 20 choirs are accepted to perform at the Memorial in front of the monumental sculpture, “The Spirit of American Youth Rising from the Waves”, and the Fort Mill High School singers can be among the selected few!
In addition to their performance, FMHS is likely participating in a special wreath-laying ceremony, dedicating a wreath to all who died in the Normandy Battle.
During this ceremony, the choir will sing the National Anthem and observe a moment of silence. This event will honor the memories of 28 U.S. Armed Forces members from Fort Mill, SC, who lost their lives in WWII and were laid to rest in Colleville-sur-Mer.
Lastly, the Normandy American Cemetery staff will lead our group on a guided tour, telling stories about the soldiers’ lives during the war. This is sure to be a moving and memorable experience for all.
