A Morning at Aldeia da Mata Pequena

A Morning at Aldeia da Mata Pequena

An Inside Europe short photo story from the village where time seems to stand still: Aldeia da Mata Pequena.

Here’s what a typical morning in July looks like, captured during a recent visit to one of our all-time favorite very, very small towns in the Portuguese countryside.

The bread bag, mid-unveiling. This is the whole ritual in one shot: warm, wrapped in cotton florals, and worth waking up for.

The spread that follows: local cheese, presunto, jam, butter, coffee, and the story of each house close at hand.

Dusk at the donkey gate. The sign reads “careful, the donkey may bite,” which feels less like a warning and more like a character reference.
